A tab is a long space (5-8x a standard space), normally found at the beginning of a paragraphs or pages of text. In word processing tabs can be both horizontal (most common) and vertical (uncommon). A horizontal tab has an ASCII value of 9 and a vertical tab has an ASCII value of 11.
